The Best Way to Experience the Canyon

Combo tours incorporate walking/hiking along the tour route, which includes the Antelope House Ruin in Canyon del Muerto and the White House Ruin in Canyon de Chelly along with many other archaeological sites. You may also see Kokopelli Cave, Petroglyph Rock, First Ruin, Junction Ruin, Ceremonial Cave, and Ledge Ruin. The itinerary may change based on the canyon conditions or if guests linger longer than recommended along the tour route.

We know the canyon inside and out, so we can show you the rich archaeology, geology, culture, and history that Canyon de Chelly has to offer. We want to get to know your interests and make your experience an unforgettable one! We can recommend great sites or take your requests. There are restroom facilities in the canyon.

What to Bring

Plenty of water: during the summer, please plan accordingly.
Snacks and food: You may bring a small cooler of water and snacks on tour, including a plastic bag to place your trash in.
Sun-block: we recommend high SPF and reapplying often.
Hat, umbrella and sunglasses: for additional sun protection.
Binoculars: general purpose binoculars will bring more of the canyon details to light.
Toilet Paper/Napkins and Hand Sanitizing Wipes: While there are restrooms in the canyon, we recommend bringing in TP or napkins in case supplies are low. There are no hand washing stations so please bring your hand sanitizing wipes.
Car seats: If traveling with small children, please bring a car seat that can be secured with a seat belt, including a bag for diaper disposal.
Cash: You may have the opportunity to purchase jewelry, rugs, arts and crafts from Navajo artisans.

Spoiled my wife

Spoiled my wife with a private tour, and it was terrific thanks to our guide, Harris Hardy. He was extremely knowledgeable and personable as well. Highly recommended. BTW, we stayed at the Thunderbird Lodge and were very happy. Tried Navajo food at the Best Western, which was also very good...not surprisingly since 90% of the patrons were Navajos.

Richard was an outstanding tour guide

We had our tour with Richard. We drove through the canyon and would stop every 5-10 minutes to get out of the car to get close up views of some of the paintings. Richard not only knew a ton about the canyon, but he also was extremely knowledgeable about the Navajo Nation in general. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to learn more about this monument!

Do you observe Mountain Daylight Time (MDT)? The Navajo Nation is in Arizona, why do you observe MDT?

We observe MDT from March through November. The Navajo Nation extends into New Mexico,
Utah and Colorado.

Yes, we offer extended tours. Please call to make arrangements.

No, pets are not allowed on tour per the National Park Service. If you have a certified service
dog, your service dog will have to be declared while obtaining the backcountry permit with your
guide.

Yes, we can accommodate large groups and special requests, please call to inquire. We strive to
meet the needs of our guests.

No, traveling to these two sites is in two different canyons and it takes time to get to each
location.

Canyon conditions is a major factor that affects the timeline of your tour, which is beyond our
control. Snowmelt and the monsoon are natural events that can affect your tour timeline. Another
factor to keep in mind is that there is a lot to see and our guests get caught up in taking
photographs or lingering longer than recommended at sites, or browsing vendors and the guide
has to start skipping sites to stay on time.

No, there is no entrance fee. However, there is a backcountry permit fee of $8.00 per person, paid in cash to the Navajo Parks and Recreation per tour
